When the church began over 35 years ago, there was a great discussion about what it's name should be. Eventually, 'Southport Community Church' was agreed upon. It expressed 3 key features: firstly, that we were located in Southport; secondly that we were to be a community of people, not strangers but friends, impacting the places where we lived; and finally, that we were Church.
As time went on people joined us from Parbold, Skelmersdale, Wigan, Bickerstaffe, Ormskirk, Banks, Tarleton and Liverpool. People joined us from around the region, making it clear that we were called to impact a wider area. This meant that we became known simply as 'The Community Church'.
At our core, we are a family of friends, on this journey of faith, reaching out with the love, life and power of Jesus.
